SEEKING GOD - A LENTEN JOURNEY
Dr Christine Dodd provided us with food for thought and prayer in a brief guided reflection this first week of Lent. Her theme was that of the desert a place of uncertainty, vastness, wilderness and wildness which symbolises the same qualities we each of us have inside ourselves in our own inner spiritual lives. It is the place where we face ourselves our own contradictions and failures, our hopes and fears and where we also meet God. God who comes to show us that in the very times of the deepest turmoil in bereavement, dire illness in loved ones, in family strife he is there with us and it is in the very deepest darkness that God gives us strength, and the light of hope to carry on. Very often we only see God has been working in us long after the event. Deserts too are places where two things are vital for survival shade and water. All the things that do not matter are stripped away. Her final point was that in a desert there is nowhere to hide. A bright clear light illuminates the vastness. In this light we face ourselves in honesty as we are and meet the God who made us each individual unique. Made from dust but destined for glory.
It was a great pleasure to have christine come out from Sheffield to help us make our Lenten journey more meaningful. The second talk will be on Tuesday 19th March. the feast day of one of our patron saints, St Joseph. So after Rosary at 6.40, Mass at 7.00 and Christines talk we will have a celebration to mark this important day feast. Please do come for this last week of Lent before the great events of Holy Week lead us to the joy of Easter.
