Parishes of Our Lady of the Assumption, Stainforth
and Ss Joseph and Nicholas, Moorends

The churches of Our Lady of the Assumption and Ss Joseph and Nicholas serve the communities of Stainforth, Hatfield, Thorne, Moorends and the surrounding villages, on the north-eastern fringe of the Catholic Diocese of Hallam, South Yorkshire.

The assumption of our Lady

The two parishes have much in common, both developed in the 20th century as working-class mining communities with a strong sense of community and both parishes have undergone a substantial period without a regular parish priest Since late 2001 Fr. Roy Pannell has been the priest for both parishes.

We have learnt where we are stronger by cooperating but at the same time we must preserve the unique identity and community spirit of each parish. In this spirit there is one web-site for the two parishes, but this contains separate sections for each parish.

St Nicholas

If you are a parishioner then the page to bookmark is What's new? which contains the latest details of what is happening in the parishes. You can also refer to the latest weekly bulletins for each parish, they are usually available by the Monday after publication.

If you live in the area but have not been able to attend Mass for some time then I hope that you will find something of interest in the web-site, and that it will to keep in contact with parish events.

If you are a visitor to the area then the Mass times and maps of the locations of the churches are most likely to be relevant. You will be sure of a friendly welcome.

If you used to live in the area then I am sure you will find much to remind you of your time here, and hopefully you will enjoy reading the latest news and views in Opinions and The Messenger (Moorends own Parish magazine). Please send us your news and we will put it on the web-site so that all can share it.

If you don't fall into any of these categories and have been directed to us by a search engine or a link - welcome, we hope you will enjoy reading about our community.
